  21. What is the difference between the Motion Controller Series IV-BD and the 340C?

  1. What is included with D-BOX Motion Code™ System?
The system is comprised of two components:

The first is the D-BOX™ seat or platform - a single seat, loveseat, or Motion platform, used to retrofit almost any existing seating.

The second is the D-BOX TM Motion Controller - either the standalone Series IV or the PC based MCI-2P or MCI-4P.

  2. How does D-BOX Motion Code TM System work?
By moving your seat or platform on 2 or 3 axes (depending on the model), in perfect synchronization with the on-screen action and sound, creating a virtual reality experience in your own home.

You are drawn into the action, as never before, as you experience the same motion forces as the actors and players you're watching on screen.

The emotional effects and spine-tingling excitement created by D-BOX Motion Code TM System is breathtaking, exhilarating and above all, great fun!

  3. What are the difference between a standalone Motion Controller and a PC-based Motion Controller?
The standalone Motion Controller (Series IV) is intended to sit alongside your audio/video equipment and acts as a specialized computer in its own right, as the D-BOX Motion Code TM titles are stored on its own hard drive.

    The PC-based Motion Controller (MCI-2P -2 ports-or MCI-4P -4 ports) requires a Windows XP,r Windows Vista or Windows 7 (32 bits) configured PC.

One Series IV or MCI-4P Motion Controller will control up to four D-BOX TM seats (chair, loveseat or platform). The MCI-2P will control up to two D-BOX TM seats (chair, loveseat or platform).

  4. How does the Series IV motion controller work?
The Series IV Motion Controller features an 80GB hard drive, storing thousands of D-BOX Motion Code TM titles.

It is network capable so that you can directly download the latest titles as they are published by our Motion Artists. It connects to your LAN home network once a day, connects to the D-BOX Live Update server to see if there are any new titles published (Live Update Subscription required).

Connected with a BD/DVD player through Digital Output, will allow it to sync up with Motion Code and then move the chairs once a movie is playing.

  5. How does the MCI series motion controller work?
The MCI-2P motion controller (2 ports) or MCI-4P motion controller (4 ports) is used in conjunction with a suitably configured Windows PC (XP, Vista or 7 - 32 bits).

The Motion Controller has no hard disc; instead it uses the PC's hard disc to store the D-BOX Motion Code TM titles.

  6. The movie picture and sound seem to work fine on my Audio/Video system, but the Message Screen says "Searching..." and then nothing happens!
Make sure that your BD/DVD player settings for the Language and Audio Format match the supported format for the corresponding Motion Code.  (Refer to section 3.1 for more information on Movie Designation).  Usually, all motion code support Dolby 5.1 or DTS 5.1 (when available).  Set your BD/DVD player in Dolby 5.1.

Make sure that your BD/DVD player is not set to output PCM on its digital audio output.  The Motion Controller only works if set on Bitstream with Dolby or DTS signals.  Please refer to your BD/DVD player manual for more information.

Make sure that the BD/DVD movie you're playing has been programmed and is loaded in your controller database.  You can search for the movie title in the Movie Index of the controller menu.

  7. The Motion System (or platform) is properly connected in the KineLink port of the Controller, but there is no detection on initialization of the controller and the chair does not move!
Make sure your Motion System is properly connected, as presented in the Quick Start Guide provided with your installation kit. The Motion System must be powered by plugging the power cord(s) into an electrical outlet. If you have an electric recliner (optional), there are at least two power cords! One for the recliner motor, and up to two cords for the Motion Actuators.

  8. Everything is plugged in as per the Motion Controller Quick Start Guide and I keep getting the "Error ... No Motion Controller Board Detected" or "Problem with DSP B Error No: BFFC0830" or "C-0XBFFC0822" on the Message Screen when I turn it on!
Make sure that the USB cable is properly connected in the back of the Motion Controller (PC3 to Port 1) (Refer to section 2.0 for System Start-Up procedures).

Try unplugging the Motion Controller from its electrical outlet in order to completely remove any power from it. Wait a few seconds and plug it in again.

  9. When I try to do a Live Update, I get the error message: No UPD find. How can I solve this?
Make sure that the Motion Controller is hooked up to an active internet connection.

If you own a Motion Controller 340C (If you don't, go directly to next step), make sure you have the latest firmware version by going in the Main Menu to Version, then to Application: The MC should be at 1.3.3 and the LU at 1.5.5. If you haven't got this version of firmware, call tech support to get the new one.

Make sure Motion Controller isn't blocked by the firewall (You can test it by simply shutting down the firewall on your network).

Try connecting it directly on your modem (main stream of your Internet).

  10. My Motion Controller is hooked-up properly but there is no movement in my seats, only vibrations when the movie is playing.
The Motion Controller is probably set on Audio mode.  By pressing the "Cancel" button or the "Auto" button on the remote control to get to the FX Auto mode, it will automatically look for the appropriate codes in the database (See to section 2.2).

  11. My Motion Controller is hooked up properly, (I can see that it has established synchronization). But, nothing is happening.
The Motion Controller intensity level is probably set to 0.  Pressing the "UP" button to level up the master volume in FX Auto mode on, while under the Preferences menu under the intensity setting, will allow you to adjust the intensity level. Or the row might be disabled in the Configuration Menu under Row Enable setting.

  12. My Motion Controller is not updating automatically.
The Live Update will start automatically only when your Controller is turned On (Power LED is green).  If the system is not running all the time, you can force an update in order for the Controller to update its current database. (See section 3.3.5). Make sure that in the Main Menu of the Motion Controller, in Configuration, Auto-Update Setup is at Auto and not Manual.

  13. Does the MCI (or PC3) is compatible with any Operating Systems?
No, we are compatible with XP 32Bits, Vista 32Bits and 7 32Bits.

  14. Is the Motion Controller rack mountable?
Middle Atlantic has built a personalized shelf for the Motion Controller.  Part Number is RSH4A3M and it can be purchased directly through them.

  15. Would it work if I would use CAT5e wire with my D-BOX setup?
Yes it would.  Normal CAT5 wire could also work but we recommend shielded Cat5 wire.

  16. Sometimes while listening to a movie, I can feel a strong vibration but it doesn't seem to be coming from the Motion Code of the scene or action I am watching. How can I fix this?
The Motion Feedback must be desactivated. Simply go in the Main Menu of your Motion Controller, then go in Preferences and select Motion Feedback and turn it off.

  17. Blu-ray's movie doesn't seem to work, controller doesn't recognize them, what can I do?
We would have to look at the blu-ray player's settings. You need to go in the menu, audio settings and set to bit-stream and use the optical/coaxial SPDIF to make it work, make sure that nothing is affecting the original audio stream.

  18. I got a DVDPlayer plugged on Coaxtial and a BDPlayer plugged on Optical, only one of the player work with the D-BOX system, why?
The motion controller will only gain access to the sound of the first one it sees active (BD or DVDPlayer). So power on only the one you want to use.

  19. For a PC3 or a MCI, how long can be the USB cable?
    20 feet long

  20. The chairs only go up and down 4 times and then stop moving. What does it mean?
The set of actuators and Syndrive doesn't have enough power to do its calibration. Check the power source.

  21. What is the difference between the Motion Controller Series IV-BD and the 340C?
Here are the main differences between the Series IV-BD and the 340C:

    • The Series IV-BD has an 80GB hard drive. The 340C has a 40GB hard drive.
    • The BD-ROM gives you the option of installing new firmware, and uploads Motion Codes from Blu-Ray discs that are D-BOX Motion Code integrated. (No need to use Live Update). The 340C has a DVD-ROM, which only provides you with the sole option to install new firmware.
    • The Series IV-BD "Live Update" is programmed to download new Motion Codes everyday at a random hour, whereas the 340C must be set manually to download at a certain hour and on a certain day.
    • Access to the serial number of the Motion Controller is possible from the front display panel for the Series IV-BD. The 340C has a sticker on the back of the unit, which could be painful if it is mounted on a rack shelf or difficult to read if one doesn't have good eyesight.
    • The main menu on the Series IV-BD allows you to see when the Live Update subscription will end, the 340C doesn't.
    • Finally the Series IV-BD allows you to enable a function which, once activated, will remember your last volume preference. The 340C will automatically bring back the default volume settings after a power cycle.
