This means that there’s no better time to immerse yourself in the film and to go behind the scenes of this upcoming family-friendly release. Acting as the sequel to Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) – which were both directed by now-producer (and Jason’s father) Ivan Reitman – this next chapter in the Ghostbusters universe follows a single mother (Carrie Coon) and her two young kids (Finn Wolfhard & McKenna Grace) 30 years after the events of the 1989 Ghostbusters film.
After losing their home and falling on financial hardship, the young family is forced to relocate to a small town in Oklahoma and move into their late grandfather’s home. However, shortly after they settle in, a series of inexplicable events start occurring—allowing the family to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and unravel the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
Accompanying them on their adventure is schoolteacher Mr. Grooberson (Paul Rudd), as well as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, who all reprise their roles from the original films.

A first for director Jason Reitman
In an exclusive interview, Jason Reitman opened up to D-BOX about his experience directing Ghostbusters: Afterlife, his favourite scenes, as well as why he’s excited for the D-BOX Ghostbusters experience!
As he explains in the clip below, he’s very excited to see the magic of the cast and crew come further to life with D-BOX haptic feedback.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife is obviously a very different kind of movie for me,” he explained. “It’s my first movie with a car chase and my first movie with a big action sequence at the end, so I’m thrilled and cannot wait to experience the D-BOX version of Ghostbusters: Afterlife myself!”
The ideal film for D-BOX
The D-BOX haptic experience connects moviegoers mind, body and soul to the movie being watched through a series of extremely precise and realistic movements, vibrations and textures, immersing them in the action on-screen like never before. The motion track for each movie is individually created by haptic designers who focus on the soundtrack of a film to decide how to move audiences, which is why Reitman believes that Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be an excellent film to see in D-BOX.
“It’s a film that has all this great heart-shaking technology at the center of it. It’s a maker movie,” explained Reitman. “It’s a movie with scientists who are building all kinds of equipment that fire and boom and rattle, so it’s just perfect for the D-BOX experience.”
A ghost chase for the ages
When it comes to the scene that Reitman is most excited for, it’s without a doubt his ghost chase.
“The ghost chase […] with Phoebe hanging outside the car, swinging around corners, the RTV chasing after the ghost… this was one of the primary reasons I wanted to make his movie,” he explained.
“I was so thrilled of the concept of doing a sequence like this, something that just reminded me of being in the DeLorean in Back to the Future, being on a speeder bike in Return of the Jedi. I always wanted to do a car chase and I think it will be a great D-BOX scene!” he exclaimed.
