Oval Tracks: A Lesson in Precision
Treyten received his D-BOX system shortly after racing at Hickory Motor Speedway, allowing him to create the perfect oval profile with the sensations of every turn, bump, and slide fresh in his mind.
For oval racing, Treyten focused on three key adjustments:
Acceleration and body roll: These settings help replicate the powerful momentum shifts and lateral forces that define oval tracks. By fine-tuning them, he can feel the subtle weight transfers as though he’s back on the real track.
Skid vibration: To maintain full control, he adjusts this parameter to sense when the tires start to slip—helping him stay on the edge of grip without spinning out.
Treyten’s main takeaway? Small tweaks make a big difference. Even the slightest adjustment to haptic intensity or feedback make a big difference.
Road Racing: Fine Tuning the Feel
While similar to his oval profile, Treyten’s road racing profile has one key difference: he adjusts how quickly his system shifts from front to back and side to side.
For him, it’s all about dialing in the feeling until it perfectly matches his real-world experience, which is why he makes some tiny adjustments to the ‘general motion settings’ section.
With these changes, Treyten ensures that every road course lap feels just as immersive and challenging as the real thing.
“Running the tracks in real life and then being on the sim with the D-BOX system is really advantageous because I can really tune these settings to how I want it,” he explained.
Dirt Racing: Dialing it Down for Maximum Control
Dirt racing presents its own unique set of challenges, with its constantly shifting surface and pronounced textures. To adapt, Treyten had to significantly scale back many of his haptic settings.
“I had to turn a lot of settings down for dirt. The bumps and textures in a dirt track are obviously a little more prominent than they are on an oval track. I noticed that a lot of the things on dirt were a little too sensitive, so I had to turn a lot of these settings down,” he explained.
One of the biggest adjustments he made was turning skid vibration completely off. Dirt tracks naturally have more sliding and drifting, and keeping skid vibration active added too much noise to the overall feedback—making it harder to focus on what mattered most: staying in control.
By refining his settings, Treyten ensured that the D-BOX system captured the essence of dirt racing without overwhelming him with unnecessary feedback.
Your Sim Racing Experience, Your Way
For Treyten, the ability to fine-tune his D-BOX haptic system isn’t just a perk—it’s a game-changer.
“I really like that D-BOX provides this customization to be able to change these settings and tune it to how I want it. It allows me to make the most of having this D-BOX system and really allows me to prepare for tracks that are upcoming in the future,” he explained.
This level of control means that no matter the track—oval, road, or dirt—he can adjust his settings to suit his racing needs and get the most immersive experience possible. While his profiles are solid foundations, he’s always tweaking them when needed, ensuring that he’s fully prepared for whatever track he’s about to take on.
